Acrylic Scleral Shells: A scleral shell is an ocular prosthesis that is for someone who still has their natural eye, however they cannot see out of it. As the blood flow to the eye decreases, the eye can begin to atrophy and possibly lose its color. Patients will start to see the difference in the size and shape of their eye socket. If these conditions are familiar to you then you may be a good candidate for a scleral shell.

It is always welcome for patients to come in and speak with an Ocularist regarding their particular situation and they will let you know for certain if you are a candidate. Sometimes a patient may lose their eye sight and remove only a portion of their eye, known as an evisceration. They would also be a candidate for a scleral shell.
